Tourism Ireland means business at WTM
Posted on: 10 Nov 2009
Tourism Ireland marked the
official launch of a brand new strategy at the international travel trade show,
World Travel Market, at London’s ExCel today, which aims to increase the number
of visitors from Great Britain to Ireland in 2010.
Speaking at the World Travel
Market, Niall Gibbons, CEO of Tourism Ireland, explained that the new campaign
will target both the leisure and business tourism communities, which have
suffered due to the economic climate, and fluctuating currencies Gibbons said
that the new strategy “sums up our determination but also illustrates and
showcases to the British travel market and the British traveller how Ireland is
a serious destination for leisure, short breaks or business leisure.”
The campaign will see Tourism
Ireland forging closer links with group organisers, coach operators,
wholesalers and specialists through a series of workshops and events, as well
as strengthening its relationship with the trade through the Best of Britain
and Ireland Travel Trade Forum in March 2010. The organisation will also
increase awareness of Ireland in Great Britain through greater engagement with
the public. Gibbons declared, “we intend to make Saint Patrick’s Day the
biggest consumer event of the first quarter of 2010. By using this event to
promote Irish culture and the island of Ireland we will create a desire to
visit Ireland and experience Irish culture first hand.”
Ryanair may change growth strategy
Posted on: 2 Nov 2009
Ryanair has revealed it is
considering easing back on its decade-long expansion as it struggles to keep a
lid on operating costs while maintaining its low fares. More specifically
Ryanair is looking for a better deal on new aircraft from Boeing. Michael O’Leary has said talks with Boeing on ordering the
aircraft for a 2013-16 delivery have not progressed much, adding it could end its
traditional relationship with the U.S. aircraft maker.
“We see no point in continuing
to grow rapidly in a declining yield environment, where our main aircraft
partner is unwilling to play its part in our cost reduction programme,” the
chief executive said.
Ryanair is running out of tools
for pushing costs lower under its own steam so they are looking to apply public
pressure on governments and airports to lower taxes and landing fees, as well
as cutting him a better deal on new planes.
